Enjoy Summer

Summer is an ideal season for walking outdoors to stay healthy! However, as the summer months heat up, it is important to take the following precautions:

  1. Stay at home during the hottest part of the day. Plan your outdoor activities for the cooler early mornings and late evenings to avoid heat-related illnesses.

  2. Let your thirst be your guide. Listen to your body’s hydration needs when you are out walking. As you walk, your body sweats and loses water, even more in the hot summer months.

  3. Be mindful of the sun’s intensity. Avoid walking outdoors when the UV index is at its highest (11am-4pm), and don’t forget to use sunscreen.

  4. Dress appropriately. Make sure to wear comfortable and lighter clothing made of breathable material, cover your head with a hat and choose the right shoes.

Zorana Maravic

“I walked around 300,000 steps in March for ECCAM2023! It has been a game-changer. I feel more energised, but walking also renewed my focus and determination. March was about stepping up for CRC, but now you can join DiCE's walkathon to raise awareness of all digestive cancers.”

Zorana Maravic, CEO, DiCE

Here are five reasons why walking regularly will make you healthier.

Regular physical activity can help to reduce the risk of digestive cancers while keeping you healthier mentally and physically. Here there are five reasons why you should establish a regular walking routine:

  1. It is FUN! Walking daily helps you reduce stress and manage anxiety, enhancing your overall well-being and allowing you to enjoy the outdoors alone or with your loved ones.

  2. You will feel stronger and maintain a healthy weight! In fact, walking contributes to preventing obesity, which is a risk factor for many cancers.

  3. It reduces the possibility of developing chronic inflammation, which can damage your healthy cells and lead to diseases such as digestive cancers.

  4. It improves your overall immune system function, making your body better prepared to fight diseases and infections.

  5. When combined with a healthy lifestyle, it can prevent high blood levels of insulin, decreasing the risk of developing chronic diseases such as cancer.
